Breckenridge Insurance Services – the national wholesale insurance brokerage division of Breckenridge Insurance Group – has recently appointed three executives and has opened its second office in Atlanta, GA.

John J. Hayes, M.S., Lisa P. Maize, and Christina Mertens have been appointed as vice presidents/P&C brokers. Hayes will be based in the new Atlanta, GA office in Two Ravinia, while Maize will be based in Houston, TX. Mertens will be working from the Denver, CO office.

Hayes joins Breckenridge from Nationwide where he was a middle market territory lead for Georgia. Before that, he was vice president of insurance services for LeasePlan, where he managed the company’s automobile fleet insurance offerings. Hayes has also held production leadership roles for Crum & Forester, Wachovia and Atlantic Mutual Insurance. He earned his master of science in business management from New York University Tandon School and attended The Wharton School Executive Leadership Development Program at the University of Pennsylvania.

Maize was most recently a senior broker at RLA Insurance Intermediaries with a focus on casualty and environmental liability. Prior to that, she was director of marketing at Marsh & McLennan Agency. Maize also held business development roles at Brown & Brown of Texas, Alliant Insurance and Lockton. Her expertise includes healthcare, professional lines, property, transportation, and manufacturing.

Before joining Breckenridge, Mertens was an account placement manager for the Professional Independent Agents of Colorado. She held previous account and client service manager roles at Richard, Seeley & Schaefer, Inc. and Arthur J. Gallagher. Mertens served as a workers’ compensation underwriter for ten years at Pinnacol Assurance, where she also trained junior underwriters. She has held claims analyst, support and specialist roles.

“I’m pleased to welcome John and Lisa and their diverse talents and shared industry passion to the team. Their skills will not only serve agents extremely well, but also be integral to our strategic growth efforts across Breckenridge,” said Breckenridge Insurance Services president Trevor Pierce, who also described Mertens as “a results-oriented professional who has leadership experience and a passion for client service.”
